ChipWhisperer-Lite connection error

“I am new to ChipWhisperer, and when I followed the instructions to install the software and tried to connect with the device, I encountered an error message: ‘Unable to communicate with the found ChipWhisperer. Please check that another process is not connected to it and that you have permission to communicate with it.’ Could someone please give me some advice on how to fix this problem? Thank you.”
OS system: Ubuntu 22.04
Device: chipwhisperer-lite

Hi,

Did you restart your computer after running the install?

Alex

Thank you for your suggestion.
In fact, I didn’t restart my computer.
However, I have fixed the problem using your previous response.

Now I am able to connect to the device, but it shows that the firmware is outdated.
Should I update the firmware, or is it optional?

We do generally recommend that you update your firmware, but, unless you run into errors, it’s not required. If you do want to update, follow the instructions at Updating Firmware — ChipWhisperer 5.7.0 documentation.
