CW vs CS comparison

Hi

It’s me again. New to hardware hacking (beyond Arduino units and ESP32 mods). I do have a bit of background in programming though. Anyway after looking at a few items I want to go with a ChipWhisperer lite. But I don’t get what the function difference is beyond a high powered CW. Am I correct in understanding that the CW units are for voltage/glitching and things like PicoEMP and CS is for EMFI?

CS and PicoEMP do only one thing: EMFI.

CW-lite and Husky offer clock glitching and voltage glitching. Voltage glitching here means “crowbarring” or short-circuiting the target supply to ground.

All these different glitching mechanisms may have the same effect on the target, but the “glitch delivery mechanism” is totally different. The advantage of EMFI is that it can, in theory, be used against any target (although there are countermeasures against it). Whereas clock glitching, for example, requires access to the target clock (not possible if the target is using an internally generated clock).

This book is a good way to learn about these things.

Got ya! Thank you very much for the help
