Noisy power traces on STM32F4 target

Hi,

I’m seeing quite noisy traces on an STM32F4 target board mounted on a CW313 board, and I’m hoping to get some advice on whether this looks normal or if there are things I should check in my setup.

In the single-shot trace (Figure 1), the signal is very noisy and contains large spikes, so the operation I expect to see is mostly hidden by the noise. However, when I average many traces (Figure 2), a much cleaner pattern appears, and the averaged trace looks much more like what I expected to see in the raw trace.

For comparison, I was able to observe a similar operation pattern much more directly on an SAM4S target, so I’m wondering whether this is expected for STM32F4, or whether it points to something in my setup that I should investigate.

I searched the forum and found a few related threads about noisy STM32F4 traces. I checked some of the suggestions, but the issue remains.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Nora
