Power analysis of a Renesas eval board

Hi,

I am attempting to perform power analysis on the Renesas EK-RA8M1 dev kit board, it has a ARM Cortex-M85 MCU.

I have a general questions on how to get a good power signal from this device, since I’ve only ever used CW devices.

Are there any specific guidelines on which filtering caps I should remove (if any), or since this is a relatively large MCU, would it be better to try EM measurements? Do you have any general advice for measuring power on non-SCA specific target devices?

More context:

This device has test points for measuring the MCU power rail, shown in the below figure. I’m using a differential probe on TP1 and TP3 and the CPUCLK is at 4MHz with a TinyAES software target running. However, I do not really measuring anything that looks close to a 4Mhz clock in the power trace. The board returns the correct AES response, so it seems to be working there.

Powe trace of Tiny AES:

Nothing really to add to the good advice you’ve received about this over on Discord. Good luck!
